Another bullâs-eye.
I blew out a breath and shook my head. âYou werenât kidding about being good with a bow.â Even with the high-tech one Iâd fitted for her, she nailed every target.
âThese are so much better than the ones I used to make back home,â she said, stroking the metal tips of the traceability arrows I favored. Striking a target with one of these allowed us to track them across the globe, assuming the victim survived. The heads used nanotechnology to infiltrate the blood of the victim.
Absolutely brilliant, but not necessarily useful in our new era. At least not in Andorra.
I handed her a pistol next, curious to see how her skill translated to firearms.
It took a bit to explain how to operate the machinery, then I fitted her with protective headgear and watched as she familiarized herself with the weapon. She didnât catch on immediately, but after two hours of experimenting, she fell into a rhythm and started hitting her targets with unerring accuracy.
A natural.
Her smile was brilliant when she finished, her blue eyes glowing. âThis would be far more useful in the wild.â
âHmm, yet nothing beats the excitement of a bow,â I mused.
She agreed, handing me the weapon. âEfficiency trumps excitement in most situations.â
âTrue.â I showed her how to take apart the gun next before introducing her to other higher-tech items. Daciana observed with an eagerness that thrilled me. Most females chose not to play in the weapons range. Meanwhile, it seemed my intended was born for it.
Weâd definitely have to find her an appropriate role, one that kept her out of harmâs way while allowing her to flourish.
Being an Omega marked her as naturally weaker, something no amount of weapons could change. Putting her in the field was never going to happen. Not to mention my instinct to protect her would make enjoyment for either of us impossible in that realm. So weâd determine another way for her to be involved.
âYouâre in charge of all this?â she asked as I stowed the weapons weâd used today.
âYes. As Anderâs Second, I am in charge of defense and security for the sector.â It also suited my enforcer background and general affinity for military intelligence and strategy.
âWhich is why everyone calls you Commander,â she said, glancing around the range and noting all the males at attention nearby. They would remain that way until I left, their obedience resolute regardless of whether or not I told them to stand down. In the comfort of a bar or a less professional arena, they would relax. But not on these grounds, where I functioned as their Alpha and lead lieutenant.
Ander often joked that they would probably take my word as law over his.
He wasnât wrong.
I slipped my hand into hers, tugging her away from the range and toward my office at the edge of the base. While here, I might as well check in to make sure everything was running as expected. We rarely had issues, just the occasional hiccupsâlike humans trying to attack our food shipments.
